The Choice Disposable Diaphragm

The Choice Disposable Diaphragm is in development as an Over The Counter (OTC), woman-controlled diaphragm that will be coupled with our microbicidal lubricant, Amphora, to offer women a discreet and affordable means to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy as well as Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI).

INSTEAD owns the only two devices that form a seal around the cervix, preventing fluid to pass in either direction, the FemCap and the INSTEAD® Softcup™. The Choice Disposable Diaphragm will be a version of the INSTEAD® Softcup™, which has been marketed for over 10 years in the U.S. as a menstrual product. The design of the cup will allow superior protection of the cervix and improved comfort over the antiquated diaphragm available by prescription today.

INSTEAD plans to market the Choice Cup over the counter to give women a convenient and accessible means to protect themselves. No such product exists today that allows a woman to protect herself without the knowledge or consent of her partner. The Choice Cup will usher in a new era of freedom, comfort and affordability over the choices currently available today.

The Choice Cup will initially be sold as a contraceptive while the Amphora microbicide completes subsequent disease-prevention clinical studies. Once additional disease-prevention claims are approved, the Choice Cup/Amphora combo will be able to serve as a means of preventing the contraction of STI in women.
